One of the residents had their parked car badly damaged by a speeding driver. It so happened that the car of the owner was parked in front of their house. The owner was about to get in the car when this speeding car came hitting the owner’s car as well as the wall next to the drain. Not only was the car damaged, but the wall also broke. Imagine this happened with a stationary car and wall! What would have happened had, there been another fast-moving vehicle? The incident was witnessed by the resident and a security guard and captured on the CCTV camera.
“I think we all residents have to keep strict watch over anything happening we witnessed that must be brought to the notice of RWA, it always helps in tracing the culprits.”, says a resident.
Rash driving has been a serious problem in the colony even on the narrow internal roads. Sometimes it is drunk drivers and sometimes the errant drivers are youngsters learning to drive.
There have been numerous reports of speeding vehicles not only on the wide roads of the colony but also on the narrow service lanes. Very often these speeding drivers are young boys barely out of school and college. The thrill of speed seems to lure you into reckless driving. The zigzag movement of the bike and the windy speed of the car are some of the things that they feel triumphant about.
“I feel so scared for them and so sorry for their parents because most would not even know what their children are up to. How do I put some sense into their minds and feel a little responsible?” says a resident.
“Whenever I see a speeding youngster, I stop him, take away the keys with me and instruct him to call his parents to get the keys back.” says another resident.” That is the only way you can put some sense to them and inform the parents at the same time. If you care, you have to act like a parent would in those circumstances”, she continues.
“Talking to parents is a good option but sometimes the person who is speeding is an adult. How can you teach an adult?” says Nidhi Agarwal.
While it’s a little difficult to teach adults, but parents can help prevent rash and reckless driving by taking a few measures. Teenagers or young adults need to be reminded again and again about the speeding limits. They must be taught to keep their cell phones off or in silent mode to prevent distraction. Parents need to put their children on a probation period before letting them behind the wheel independently. Most importantly, the children must be told how important and precious they are to their parents.
