Renowned Websites are being hacked. Your Bank Account can be wiped out/ depleted.
While taking an online appointment, one of my relative’s saving a/c was debited for Rs. 99499/- instead of just Rs. 1000/-.on 6th June. She wanted an appointment for her child for high fever and soar throat, from a well known hospital called Sanar Hospital, Gurugram. Her account got depleted. Thank God she had only one lac and a few thousands in her a/c at that time. She called the Bank’s customer care centre and the crime cell and informed them about the fraud within an hour. She also registered a formal complaint with the ICICI Bank Branch, the very next day. But all in vain. Also, she reported the matter to RBI, on 10th June. which advertises for it’s assurance in print media. All exercises went in vain. RBI says, “You didn’t report the matter to ICICI Bank, before reporting to RBI, so can’t entertain your grievance.” As a matter of fact, the fraud occurred on 6th June. ICICI Bank’s respective branch was informed within an hour. A written complaint was also filed in the branch on 7th June. RBI was informed on 10th June. The respective Bank Branch credited back the amount lost in her account. But later, her account was again debited. The Branch replied on 2nd August, after rigorous follow up, “your complaint is closed as the money has been withdrawn by you using an OTP. Actually the website of the hospital was hacked. How would the poor girl know that. These days, all banks have upgraded their systems to stop such frequently happening frauds. They always ask you “whether you have done this transaction, if not, please call back at such & such no”. or even they call you, if they have any doubt about the withdrawl. How can ICICI bank escape responsibility, in spite of the fact, that the fraudulent transaction was reported to the Bank within an hour. How can a bank close a complaint without giving any valid reason? One doesn’t know, how to recover the hard earned money, lost in such fraudulent transactions ,inspite of taking proper action.
