Meghdutam Rangmanch organized a one of its kind book event called Daryaganj (the iconic book market every bibliophile has been to or dreams to visit at least once) and it was an honour for me to host this session, at the Meghdutam Park in Sector-50.
The highlight of the event is its simplicity where Noida residents are invited to share, exchange or give away their books that gets rotated between the visitors only; i.e., the visitors mostly take away books of their choice and the remaining gets donated to Noida Public Library. This way the books get a new home, a new life and in an indirect way, it also promotes Reduce and Reuse.
We also introduced Open Mic and the response was overwhelming. We had almost 20 participations where kids narrated/ recited beautifully and after a little nudge even adults came forward and participated, the whole atmosphere was one of literary mood and later turned musical, very organically. We would like to especially thank Gurvinder Sital (Sagar Apartment), book lover and coin collector, for his help and support in running this event smoothly.
In today’s time, such events are extremely rare yet equally important to inculcate not only love for reading but also for holistic development where our children get an opportunity to discover the simple joys of life that our generation took for granted. These events also provide a much-needed respite from the internet and social media. They inspire us to have a more inclusive society and to come out of our house and have a good time amidst books and nature, as the title suggests.
Happy Summer Reading, now that spring is nowhere to be found.
