Basant Panchami, the festival that marks the onset of spring, is a time of celebration, spiritual reflection, and cultural bonding. In Santushti Apartments, D6, the entire neighbourhood came together at Central Park on 2nd February to honour the vibrant season, pay homage to Goddess Saraswati, and celebrate our culture.
Everybody, from grandparents to small children, dressed up in hues of traditional yellow attire symbolising the bounty of nature, made the celebrations all the more lively.
The pandal decorated with banana trees, fresh flowers, mango leaves, and handmade decor items made of colourful cloth pieces made the area completely eco-friendly and sustainable.
A serene atmosphere enveloped the gathering as the aroma of the incense and fresh flowers wafted through the air, accompanied by the melodious sound of songs devoted to Maa Saraswati. The priest led the worship ceremony while residents, particularly students, artists, and dance troupes, actively participated by offering flowers and lighting diyas to honour the goddess. Everybody gathered to offer Pushpanjali, and attended the Aarti and the Havan. The prayer session included chanting hymns dedicated to Maa Saraswati, seeking her blessings for wisdom and knowledge.
Following the puja, a series of cultural programs were held. The performances by the children of Santushti, especially their rendition of Saraswati Vandana, through Kathak recitals, created an opportunity for the younger generation to connect with their heritage while displaying their talents.
After the puja was over, bhog prasad khichuri, payesh, fruits, sweets, namak pada, and dadhikarma were distributed celebrating the spirit of togetherness and joy.
In the morning, a havan too was organised by Mohan Sethi for the senior citizens of Santushti. It was a day that brought everyone together, reminding us that no matter the age or background, we all have the potential to grow, learn, and contribute to the community.
The celebration of Basant Panchami successfully combined spiritual devotion with cultural expression, making the festival a meaningful and joyful experience for all participants from Santushti Apartments. Looking forward to it next year and year after year as a symbol of our commitment to knowledge, unity, and cultural heritage.
