Baithak to Celebrate Pt Birju Maharaj

On 07 January “Anvarat”, a baithak (close gathering to appreciate art and artists), was organised successfully by a gurukul for performing arts. The event took place in Grand Omaxe (Sector-93B) to celebrate a legendary artist, Guru and a doyen of Kathak dance world, Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj and the legacy of Guru–Shishya Parampara (an Indian methodology of teaching in performing arts).

Guru ji’s senior disciple, top-graded artist of Doordarshan, Govt. of India and Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, Guru Shikha Khare, commenced the baithak with the offering of flowers, i.e pushpanjali to her Guru.

Subsequently the junior artists performed “Adharam Madhuram”, a composition from Madhurashtakam composed by Sri Vallabhacharya followed by technical aspects of Kathak dance in tarana and bhaav on thumri. All musical compositions used in the programme were by Pt. Birju Maharaj ji and the choreography by Guru Shikha Khare.

Artists that performed were her disciples: Vrinda, Aarya, Ana, Lavanya, Aksha, Anika, Anushi, Tavishi and guest artists were Sulagna Roy and her students: Esshvi, Rashmi, Krishna, Aswika,Aditri Rishima, Prerna Subhi and Koyal.

Board of member of Grand Omaxe were present on the occasion; Harish Madan was present as a Guest of Honor and the Special Guests were Shanti Prasad Agarwal from Indian Broadcasting Service (Akashwani & Doordarshan), Rishabh Raj Jain (advocate) and Anubhav Srivastava, deputy Director, NCDC, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi.

Saniddhya’s members – Amita Verma, Disha Mehra Jain and Vrinda Baheti – were present on this occasion.
