In 2021 monsoon, Himanshu ji (T14) brought together residents for a plantation drive on Janpath. Many of these trees, which some of you planted, were of Lagerstroemia speciosa, also called Jarul or Pride of India.
Two years on, you can now experience autumnal magic on Janpath thanks to their presence. The leaves have started turning into shades of purple and russet, and shedding; while tree leaves changing colour with change of season is a well – observed and understood phenomenon, it inspires unparalleled awe.
Fortunately, you don’t have to trek to Vermont to experience the magic; just be good neighbours to the Jarul (by watering them through the summer) and experience the magic come every autumn.
