Recently, an attempt was made to rob a house in A block, Vasant Vihar by two heavily drunk men in broad day light. The men were carrying iron rods.
The men were spotted on the first floor of the house in A block by the house owner’s driver and a carpenter working in the premises. On questioning by the driver what they were doing there, they said they had come for garbage collection. Sensing something fishy, the driver caught one of them, the other man ran away. On detailed investigation, it was found that the two men had already stolen the inverter installed on the terrace and disconnected the electric supply to the first floor. The motive was robbery.
The above is not the first instance. There have been many other cases of car theft, chain snatching, molestation etc. in the colony in broad daylight. This raises the point: Are we safe in the colony? The environment in which we are living, is it safe? The answer is NO.
There is no regular patrolling by the police in the colony. People are having their own private security. There is no central coordination between the various security agencies operating within the colony. People who do not have their own security arrangements are living at their own peril.
Most of the people living in Vasant Vihar are senior citizens and most of them live alone. Their protection and security are the moral responsibility of the Society and the Vasant Vihar Welfare Association.
The colony needs a centralized security under the supervision and control of the Society and the Vasant Vihar Welfare Association.
On 22 July at 6 am stone throwing from bridge breaking glasses was reported. It’s a security threat to all Palam Marg residents. This is the second such incident. Need to take appropriate action on priority.
A formal police complaint with video footage etc will be given to police. We are infromed that two boys in two cars came and stood on the bridge then picked up stones and threw.
Another resident commented that he is seeing lot of cars and people roaming around in Lanes. Many unidentified people are also there with searching eyes.
Earlier we used to keep many gates closed but now we keep them open whole day for small benefit of few residents.
Many colonies keep many gates locked during the day also.
It is time to review this matter
Another resident commented, “Yesterday, in my absence, someone from Kent came with all details to clean my water purifier and promptly opened it to change the candles. I had not made any complaint nor received an update from the company.
Luckily, I was home on time so no damage done.
Quite a few people call up claiming to be from Kent. One should deal only with the official ones whose number is on their website or the invoice. Too many such incidents of random people walking in. We must ask our building guards to be more vigilant & don’t let just anyone come inside.
