The festive season of the year has begun and we are going to see many stalls set up across GK2 itself to feed the hungry passersby during the day. It is a good sign that people care for the welfare of the society. Prasad will be distributed in the form of poories with sabji and halwa, rajma chawal & and the like. A large number of people, from all walks of life, grab this opportunity and enjoy the delicious food. They could be pedestrians or on a vehicle. Long queues of people waiting eagerly for their turn to get their share are a common sight.
The high festive spirit, yelling sounds of volunteers calling for sabji, puri, etc. noise of traffic jams created, are part of this excitement.
Finally, all the vessels will be empty. Distributors will be happy. An area bubbling with life will get deserted with a piercing silence. All that will be left behind will be the trail of trash generated.
Disregarding the food that is prepared and distributed with faith and respect will be seen around. The pattals, glasses, and spoons will be strewn all over the place showing the callous attitude of the people. These can be spotted even at some distance away from the spot. This is a great disrespect for the environment too. People don’t take cognizance of the dustbins even if they are placed prominently by the organizers. Nobody wants to make the effort to drop their waste into the dustbins or carry it to their bins at home. Messing up the area and the environment can bring no good.
When will we be aware of the repercussions? When will we understand that the careless attitude is infecting us all very badly? It is high time we understand the gravity of this situation and play our part to keep our area clean and become part of the Green Earth initiative. Let us also realize composting is smart and GKIIWA has joined along with MCD and a few volunteers are running the wonderful project of making compost with dry wet waste collected from the households. Lesser waste generation and that too properly disposed of will be the real starting point.
Let us all step up our act and play a positive part in this direction.
