“Are You Ok?”, “Do You Need Any Help?”, “Can I Do Something For You?”
by Parul Bhandari
We are living in good societies and connected together with other residents of our community. We know each other’s daily lives and day-to-day struggles. We meet, greet and talk to each other about what’s going on in our houses, their houses and the neighbouring houses. However, in spite of our knowledge about our surroundings, at times, we are unaware that there are some people around us who are actually facing some serious problems in their lives for which they require help on urgent basis.
They may not say or are reluctant at first but if we truly care to know about their health or well-being, then we can just ask them a simple question, “Are you ok?” or “Do you need any help?” or “Can I do something for you?” and then they may open up, talk about their problems and ask for help. Rather than waiting for others to do something for them, let’s be the first one to help them. In these circumstances, we should come for their help, raise our voices and if possible, use whatever strength, power, resources, contacts, support etc. we have, in order to save our concerned residents not just because they are our neighbours but also because we are humans. Also, today someone needs help; tomorrow we can be at their place too, so let’s help.
Do you know a senior citizen in your community or area who is living alone? Do you care to ask a woman living alone in your neighbourhood if she’s ok? Does anyone of your community who is not happy, makes you think that they may be in some serious trouble? Have you done something worth-doing for a senior citizen? If not, then please do it because your little contribution and just one step to help can do wonders for a senior citizen, a woman or anyone who’s in trouble right now. And it’s also a truth that you would be a senior citizen someday too, if not now.
There may be people around us who are facing extreme struggles and hardships because of the faults of others, so why not help them, stand for them and protect them. I want to request people to please come forward for help for a senior citizens of your society as your little help can contribute in a much bigger Let’s become a true gentleman or a true woman of substance for everyone, everywhere, every time.
