It is the time of the year when we see a bloom of beautiful flowers, trees with vibrant colours just adding to the scenic environment. Taking this forward and to do their bit for the environment, the “Rotary Club of Delhi Safdarjung” in association/collaboration with MCD, organized a ‘Plantation Drive on 03.04.2023 at the Park next to the Arya Samaj Mandir in A-Block, NFC”, with the ‘Deputy Commissioner, MCD (Central Zone) and our Councillor Neetu Chaudhary as the Guests of Honour. A request was sent (and many residents were personally called) to all nature lovers as well as other residents and also to the members of the RWA who would be interested, to please join for the ‘plantation drive’ and further help to ensure nurturing of the planted trees and watch them grow over time. The Rotary assured all of going back happy with the feeling of doing their bit of adding beauty to nature!!!…Come 3rd April, and the PARK looked beautiful, after a thorough and deep dry-cleaning stint by the MCD maalis assisted by the MCD sanitation staff and other staff officials. True to his word, our Guest of Honours were absolutely punctual to kick-start the event, which saw the presence of many residents and also children who collectively planted saplings of Kachnar, Mango, Jamun, Guava and Aloe Vera. As was expressed by our very own ‘rotarian’, viz., Sanjeev Rai Mehra (C-584 NFC), the past District Governor, Rotary District 3011…. “It was indeed heartening to see so many residents turning up for the tree plantation effort by the Rotary Club of Delhi Safdarjung. It was excellently coordinated by Puja Jain and the occasion was graced by Mrs. Neetu Chaudhary as well as the Deputy Commissioner, MCD (Central Zone) besides neatly some office bearers of the RWA and so many residents….”. This was the second such plantation effort by Rotary in NFC (the first one being carried out in August 2021). At the request of some residents, an effort towards planting of ‘mosquito repellent trees’ such as CITREODORA/ CITRONELLA was also thought of, but, despite their best efforts, the Rotarians could not procure the sapling. However, they gifted Tulsi plants to the residents which besides other herbal qualities is a known mosquito repellent. Residents were encouraged to plant Tulsi, Lavender and Marigold in their houses. In fact, the residents who did not receive the ‘Tulsi Saplings’ called me (Puja) and Mr. Mehra with a request for the ‘sapling’ which was acceded to, with the result being a ‘happy smile’ on their beautiful faces!! The sown/planted saplings are being looked after and nurtured by us and a few residents to ensure their healthy growth.
