Residents of Apex Athena were treated to a vibrant two-day celebration of Lohri and Makar Sankranti, showcasing the community’s rich cultural heritage and festive spirit. The event, organized by the Athena Cultural Committee in collaboration with Atreya Event Pvt. Ltd., brought together families and friends for a memorable experience filled with shopping, food, entertainment, and traditional rituals.
The festivities kicked off on January 12, 2025, transforming the society’s grounds into a lively carnival. From 4 PM onwards, residents explored a diverse array of attractions. Exclusive stalls offered a wide range of products, including woolen suits, Kashmiri items, gents wear, kids’ toys and stationery, jewelry, and chocolates, providing a perfect opportunity for last-minute festival shopping.
Food lovers indulged in a mouth-watering selection of dishes. The air was filled with the aroma of chaat, pav bhaji, chole bhature, and Chinese cuisine. Traditional favorites like gajar ka halwa and gulab jamun satisfied sweet cravings, while specialties such as Rajasthani makke/bajre ki roti with gud ki chai added an authentic touch to the celebrations.
The event catered to all age groups with kids’ rides, games, and engaging
competitions led by an emcee. A dedicated selfie point allowed families to capture lasting memories of the occasion.
As the evening progressed, a DJ set the mood for celebration, encouraging residents to showcase their dance moves and embrace the festive spirit.
Traditional Lohri Celebrations
The second day, January 13, 2025, focused on the heart of Lohri traditions. At 8 PM, residents gathered at the Amphitheatre in Central Park for the main Lohri
celebration. The highlight was the lighting of the traditional bonfire, symbolizing the essence of the festival.
Families came together to share the warmth of Lohri, exchanging wishes for good health and happiness. The bonfire served as a focal point for storytelling to the beats of dhol, and performing dances.
Participants took part in the time-honored tradition of tossing sesame seeds, jaggery, and peanuts into the fire, seeking blessings for prosperity and a bountiful harvest.
The two-day event at Apex Athena not only honored the agricultural roots of Lohri and Makar Sankranti but also strengthened community bonds.
