Senior Citizen get together was organized on Sunday, 16 th April, 2023 from 5 pm to 7 pm in the Lohri Park. It was a delightful and enjoyable evening.
The event had been orga nized very meticulously. Many games for the guests were organized. For the first time, a cultural programme by children who paid tribute to their grandparents was organised. 9 children were trained for the performance by our Cultural Coordinator, Meenakshi Chanda. While planning the programme, members had been assigned duties which were to be executed before and during the event. Each member of the group which included Anil Nag, Mr. Davender Sood, Puja Kapoor, Neelu Sood, Meenakshi Chanda, Ritu Sood, Pankaj Kaistha, Neeraj Sood , Virender Sood and Girish Mehra, Gen. Secretary and President put in their best foot forward and made this event enjoyable and memorable. Neelu Sood, Puja Kapoor and Meenakshi Chanda had braved the scorching heat and gone to the market to buy the gifts.
There were more than 100 senior citizens who graced the occasion. The programme started with the welcome address by Rohit Kumar, Gen. Secretary. He welcomed the guests and said that ANRWA is very fortunate to have guidance and advice from their senior citizens and that the Get Together was a token / expression of their gratitude to them.
The President, Deepti Gulati also welcomed the guests and said that since our senior citizens are so young at heart , it would be appropriate to name the event as Get together for young adults. Very interesting games were conducted and winners were given prizes by Mr. Ajay Sood, ex President.
The highlight of the programme was a very poignant performance by the children of the colony. They danced to melodious retro Bollywood numbers. The guests were thrilled to be transported back into the 60s and 70s. They cheered and applauded the children very excitedly!
The last number was the Icing on the Cake! The children paid a beautiful tribute to their grandparents. They performed it so beautifully that many guests were seen wiping their eyes. Mr. Vinod Jain and Mr. S.N Gulati were so moved by their performance that they gave them cash prizes. Thereafter the guests were requested to proceed towards the food counters where tempting snacks awaited them.
The programme ended with performances by our Young Adults. Mrs. Kailash Sharma recited self composed couplets which were full of wisdom and perceptive observation on life. Mrs. Usha Kapoor, Mrs. Sushma Sood, Mr. Hari Avasthi, Mr Khosla, Mr. Vinod Sagar Jain, Mrs. Rama Prabhakar, Mrs. Vimi Sharma , Mrs. Kusum Takulia showcased their wonderful talents by rendering beautiful songs which was greatly appreciated by all. The Sprinkle of rain, though interrupted the event for a while, made the weather beautiful and added more cheer to the evening.
The programme ended with the Finale: a Punjabi foot tapping song by Deepti Gulati, Neelu Sood and Kalpana Popli! Every guest was given a gift by ANRWA as a token of their love and respect for them. It was indeed a very fulfilling evening!
