Ajit Kumar Upadhaya has in the past two years been encouraging Community Participation, forming a Jury Group to settle Social Disputes among Neighbours and Family; Night Vigil Programme to curb Car Thefts and Late-Night Binge Driving; organising Senior Citizen Get-Togethers; Encouraging NGOs to utilize Thana Premises to run Skill Training Workshops & Counselling Programmes; Establishing a Digital Library etc.
Taking forward the concept of Voluntary Community Participation SHO has now introduced a concept of Daily ‘Public Police Officer’ who will sit in the Police Station and Resolve Complaints & Counsel complainants. On for ten days at the time of filing this report, some exemplary work has been done by those who have held office for the day.
Most complaints have been of Civil nature among Neighbours or Family, but one criminal case that gives hope to society is that of a young first-time offender. The youngster was counselled into registering for skill training with EWA for Solar Panel fixing and earning with dignity. The youngster was surprised at the humble treatment he got and promised that he will disassociate himself from bad company and keep away from criminal activities.
No wonder that GK-I Police Station has won the best managed PS in South District by DP Commissioner and won many accolades from Society. Kudos to the GK-I PS staff for managing with such effectiveness despite a very depleted staff strength, (which is a constant bone of contention) but with RWA’s & Civil Society contribution and SHO’s initiatives the results have been laudable.
