In present day Swachh Bharat, it would be easy to agree on the opposite-the non- ideal carry bag, which can only be law defying single use plastic [SUP] bag. Despite its low cost and popularity, ready availability and versatility from being able to provide ready cover to veggies and fruit , tea tiffen or trash, the vibrant messaging of its evil environmental impact has gone home. The thin plastic bag is in the dog house, but unfortunately, not in jail.
In the on going search for alternatives which are ecologically benign but also attractive, sturdy and affordable, a group of women residents of Shanti Niketan, Aao Milo, has partnered with Shri Satya Prakash Dubey, owner of the Safal outlet in South Moti Bagh Market to promote its cloth bags. Members have donated the fabric and trimmings and allowed home makers with machine stitching skills to turn them into bags during their leisure moments in their domestic routines for a mutually agreed fee. The cost of the bag [Rs20-25] also includes a small honorarium for Dubeyji’s helpers.
