Away to beat the midweek blues was an enchanting musical evening at our clubhouse on 21 February. Some of us have been fortunate to hear Sudip Mukherjee on online music shows, a norm during Covid, but thanks to Alok Sahdev (5161), we got to witness and soak in some soulful renditions in Sudip’s mesmerizing voice, live.
Sudip’s performance left everyone in awe of his talent. He transitioned from one genre to the other effortlessly and brought out the unique mood & melody of every song skilfully.
Sudip started his performance with Jagjit Singh classics, which we all know, require a deep understanding of the language, nuances of ghazal singing, a strong emotional connect with the music & above all the silky yet sonorous voice that Jagjit Singh was gifted with. He stayed true to these and left the audience spellbound.
As the performance progressed, Sudip showed his versatility through emotional & peppy Kishore Kumar songs. Unsurprisingly, he delivered each of them with utmost passion & flair. He left us wanting for more when he ended with a few Hemant Kumar numbers. He perfected the legendary singer’s style & sensibilities and moved the audience.
The evening was a memorable one, the atmosphere romantic, and the performance awe-inspiring. As a veteran here, I take the liberty to share some advice. I know we get busy in our ever-demanding routines and responsibilities. However, I strongly encourage you to attend such events.
The joy and sense of community that come from experiencing live music are priceless. Something that should not be missed!
The Cultural Committee must have planned similar performances in March – April to brighten up the spring season. Do not miss the next ones! Always mark your calendar and take out time for such beautiful musical evenings whenever these come up. You will not regret it.
