An Elder Sibling: A Blessing?

Some children feel that being the single child or a grandchild has loads of advantages: undivided love of parents, uncles, aunts and grandparents. Even gifts and all goodies are not shared by two or three kids.

These may be blessings for some, but I view them differently.

I have a brother, Aditya, who is four years elder to me. He teases me and often fights with me, and that definitely annoys me a lot, but he is one person who I can blindly trust apart from my parents. He helps me with my studies when I have doubts and while preparing for my exams as he is intelligent and knows how best to explain things to me, especially in Mathematics.

We are different from each other. He is sober, quiet, reserved and slightly introverted whereas I am naughty, friendly and an extrovert. Our tastes and hobbies are also different except for one common thing, and that is our fascination for chess!

Many of my friends, who are the only child of their parents, have to be looked after by nannies when their parents are not around, but I have never faced this problem as my caring and affectionate brother is always there for me!

He ensures that I do not waste time watching TV or on other useless stuff. As the younger sibling, I have my elder brother to support and guide me. He is my role model and I have been learning several things about life from him!

I regard myself lucky to have an elder brother: God’s gift to the younger sibling who cares and loves you as much as your parents but also protects you from your parents’ scolding when you happen to get it.
