Cambridge Dictionary defines Graffiti as words or drawings, especially humorous, rude, or political, on walls, doors, etc. in public places.
It is usually illegal and in volves unauthorized use of public space by one or more persons. As per Brittanica.com, “Graffiti can be understood as antisocial behaviour performed to gain attention or as a form of thrill-seeking, but it also can be understood as an expressive art form.”
South City 1 had its share of Graffiti at the far end of the lane beside the Club that leads to K R Mangalam School. A few pornographic images had been drawn by a few young residents on the wall in the lane and the area was being used in the evening for “car-o-bar”. As the lane is almost deserted after dusk, the young brigade was also littering the area with empty and broken bottles.
A Samaritan from South City took a video of the area during her morning walk and posted it on the colony’s Whatsapp group in the first week of January. The issue was reported to the SHO and he promised suitable action if residents could alert his team while “car-o-bar” was live.
That evening, just as the sun went down, unsavoury activity was again reported on the WhatsApp groups. Contrary to the image of Indian Police portrayed by Hindi Films, the SHO of PS Sec 40 acted immediately and his team of riders reached the spot within a few minutes. The group of youngsters were spoken to and a stern warning was issued.
We are now happy to report that All izz well. Three Cheers to the Gurugram Police !!!
PS: No youngsters OR animals were harmed in the incident mentioned above.
