With A Few Choicest Symbols of Angst In Between
It was supposed to have been a mega event – the first birthday of the Kittens Club. Kittens propose. RWA disposes. After hectic parleying, it had been decided to host the event on
16 April. Invitations were issued. Bookings done, menu decided, program chalked out, costumes selected; when the RWA coolly decided to hold the AGM on the same date! A few miscellaneous symbols to describe our angst!
Well, like dutiful citizens of the Sector, the executive committee decided to postpone the event to 23r April. There was a shrill outcry, led by Sangeeta Dutta, who had cajoled, bullied and seduced her family into postponing their river rafting trip to that date, just so she could attend the anniversary party. But there was nothing to be done. Priority is priority.
So we all knuckled down and began preparations for the AGM. Just 6 days to go, and we were informed that the AGM had been postponed to 23rd April, due to the non-availability of the venue on 16.Choice of symbols raised to the power of N….! Renewed rounds of hectic parleying, to-ing and fro-ing by the committee. Could we manage the 16 ? Should we move forward to the 30th? Yes-ing, no-ing, iff-ing, bu-ting oho-ing and so-ing ensued at a furious rate. It took Ritu Dhillon and Sweety’s combine savoir faire to “Invest calm upon the situation”.
Soon, everything fell into place and the ladies were all togged up, to enjoy their anniversary. Baisakhi was the theme, and Sweety, resplendent in bright yellow, along with Madhu, took over the reins of the program. A soulful ghazal by Manisha Rai was followed by a medley of Tappas and geet by Rani Bhaskar, Sunila Soni and Pooja Bhardwaj and Usha Bhatt. The surprise package was little Mysha. Her mum, Diksha, a newcomer to the sector had begged to attend the occasion with her little one, as Mum-in-law was playing hookey at her own daughter’s house, and there was none to play babysitter. A special “Pass” was given to the duo, as it’s always a Kittens’ objective to make everyone belong, and it proved to be a wonderful licence. Both mother and daughter were the souls of the party, dancing to the music with gay abandon.
An impromptu fashion parade gave the ladies a chance to parade their togs, uncaring of the waiters gawking from the sides. Bubbly Shirisha Goswami, all togged up in paranda, chuda, boonda was unanimously elected Punjabi Kudi as she danced in gay abandon to the Panjabi Bhangra with Ritu. Not to be outdone, Pooja Dua grabbed Vidushi Chattwal by the hands and spun her around till both of them collapsed in a heap, giggling and breathless.
A more serious note was struck by an absorbing address on Eye care by Dr Sridevi Haldar. It was Sweety, (as usual) who had pointed out how qualified, talented and enterprising many of our Kittens are, and that it is a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase their various talents to their friends and neighbours. We have decided that at least one Local Talent will make a presentation at each event.
The mandatory game of Tambola was over, the ladies made a beeline for the yummy tummy goodies, and selfies. And so, crossing many hurdles, the Happy Birthday celebrations finally happened!
