Fun With Seniors
Winter is the time when everyone looks forward to an outing in the sun. Volunteers of ‘All Is Well’ have been planning for a day outing for a long time, and finally on 10th December on a nice, clear and warm day, this was made possible. Preparations started 15 days ago, this time it was women volunteers who took the lead and planned everything. Geetika Jain from P block negotiated the ticket rates at Surajgarh, she also made arrangements for the bus. Within two days the desired list was complete and a few seniors were waitlisted. The waitlisted members did not want to miss the fun and when they did not get a seat on the bus they decided to follow in their car and join the fun.
Everyone arrived on time, and the bus left on time. Singing songs, bhajans and passing around sweets, dry fruits and chips we were at Surajgarh in half an hour. The excitement and happy faces reminded everyone of their school days and everyone wanted to be a child that day. Once inside, it was fun throughout. The energy was high and with games, rides, a huge spread of breakfast on arrival, mid-day pakoras and jalebi, lunch was a lavish spread with a separate counter for village-style winter food stalls followed by evening tea, chat, tikki, bhel puri and other street food. Dancing to the rural folk songs, trying hands-on pottery, aiming at the target, archery, zip line, animal carts, puppet show, photo booth, army-style commando games and a DJ with masti songs made everyone shake a leg or two.
In the afternoon the ladies of Club 65 have a session of “sangeet”. Hidden talents were discovered when many ladies joined in singing traditional pre-wedding songs and shared funny incidents from their younger years. It felt like one big family where we all got together to celebrate.
Soon it was time to get back home. It was a day well spent where we all came closer and we promised to make such outings regular in the future.
K 16 Park has a morning yoga group. It consists of residents of all ages. This time they all decided that they should perform for the seniors of Dignity Foundation, who meet twice a week at the Chai Masti Centre at K Block Community Centre. They performed a skit, followed by singing and enthusiastic dance performances which not only lifted the spirits of the seniors but also made them join. Everyone enjoyed the entertainment provided by the Morning Yoga Group.
