Cost Covid this was the first physical monthly meeting of our unit. A lot of new members joined the informative lecture by Dr Tomar who is a Renowned Agricultural Scientist from Pusa Agricultural Institute. Dr Tomar spoke at length about the importance of growing green leafy vegetables and a variety of other veggies in our own kitchen gardens. Be it a balcony garden, terrace garden , small or big lawn. Free Green leafy veggies like spinach, coriander, mint, beans of all sorts, spring onions, garlic, all kinds of salads and herbs, cherry tomatoes and other different varieties of tomatoes, brinjal, baby corn, cauliflower, cabbages, radish , carrots and berries beet roots and many more can be grown with ease. And the health benefits of eating these fresh vegetables grown organically are immense. The growing menace of Cancer is mainly due to the indiscriminate use of pesticides by farmers in growing vegetables. There are no checks and balances by the govt on this very important aspect. He stressed upon the need of using only cow dung manure, vermi-compost or compost made at home by using kitchen waste. Most of the members of Aikga have been making kitchen compost in their homes.
By doing so they are doing a great work of reducing the burden of garbage on the already overflowing garbage Dhalaos in the city.
It was an extremely informative session liked by all. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks to the speaker followed by yummy pakoras and a hot cup of tea.
