August was the month of plantations. On 12th August members of Unit 42 along with some Chapter members, Convenors and Reena, who is the treasurer went for a plantation drive in South City 1. On 15th August another plantation drive was held with support of RWA Sushant Lok 1 along with Convenors, members and residents. Priya Dalwani who is a member of Unit 42 took the initiative to plant in the community park.
The monthly meeting of Unit 42 was held on 23rd August at the residence of Pamela Puri, a senior member of AIKGA. Pamela ji who is fondly known as Poma ji among friends started her journey with plants at the age of 8. She is like an encyclopedia, full of knowledge which she has gained over the years. She thanked Dr. S.S Sandhu ji and Mahesh Mishra ji for all the tips she got from them and now these tips are on her fingertips.
The topic of the month was, “Caring for plants in rainy season” Poma ji shared inputs on, fertilizing, watering, placement, getting pots ready before rains, protection from fungus and the sowing chart for the coming season. She very patiently explained the technique of getting flowers like chrysanthemum and roses ready for winters.
Besides sharing her knowledge she opened her house, her garden, her terrace for all to see and shared plants with all. One sitting is never enough with Poma ji…Yeh Dil Maangey More.
Unit 39 met on 19th August at Chinmay Mission hall, Sector 50. Poornima Savargaonkar who is also the Convener of the unit gave a talk on “Monsoon upkeep of garden and Organic remedies for disease and pest control” She gave an in depth talk on how to get the soil ready for pots and the ground before the monsoon. She also spoke on selecting the pots. Poornima ji covered the topic on creating a bio diverse and rich environment so that the plants thrive in the garden. She gave a very unique outlook about pests and weed management with her style of connecting everything with our life and life experiences.
Update from the Head office – The Udyan Mela which takes place in the month of September at Gulmohar Park, Club lawns, New Delhi is not being held. Units have got the option to hold individual melas at the centre where they meet monthly. 15% of the sale proceedings will go to the AIKGA main account.
