Growing roses brings immense joy and satisfaction to gardeners. These exquisite flowers, with their diverse colors and sweet fragrance, offer a sense of accomplish-ment as they flourish under your care. Witnessing the delicate buds unfurl into full blooms is a rewarding experience and tending to their needs cultivates a deep connection with nature. The act of nurturing roses fosters patience and mindfulness, as they demand personalized care and a balance in soil, water, and sunlight. Ultimately, the joys of growing roses lie in the beauty they bring to your garden and the happiness they inspire in your heart.
October is the perfect time to start tending to roses. Keeping this in mind, AIKGA organized a special talk by an expert – Mr. Mahesh Mishra. Members were excited about the subject and the speaker, and they showed up in large numbers on the Zoom call. Mr. Mishra recommended that roses should be left dry for 2 days and then pruned finely. Refrain from watering them for two more days, thereafter, feed them with a good fertilizer and water them thoroughly. Roses need 40-45 days to bloom after pruning. They love sunlight and they need to be fertilized frequently till mid-January. Use terracotta pots, N, P, K and Epsom salt regularly to get large, plentiful and healthy blooms. Use of bio-enzymes (made from banana peels, marigold flowers) is extremely helpful to spur new blooms. Inspect your roses periodically to catch early signs of pests and diseases. Use organic insecticides and pesticides like neem spray to prevent any such outbreaks. Turn the soil weekly to increase aeration. You can prolong the blooming stage by cutting spent flowers and turning them in the soil. This prevents seed formation on the plant and increases its longevity.
Surely, the members will follow these tips from our expert Mr. Mishra and enjoy the splendor of fabulous roses throughout the winters.
