Our monthly meeting of Aikga was held at the library after a gap of two months. So the excitement of members to attend the meeting was visible in the very good response in terms of attendance. We also decided to have one of our best speakers to deliver the lecture on winter annuals.
Mahesh Mishra is a well known agriculturist who has vast knowledge on environment, plants, fruits and vegetables and home composting. He has been researching on natural ways to grow healthy veggies and fruits in our home gardens including roof top gardens, balconies, small and big lawns as well as farm houses. His speciality is using simple kitchen ingredients as insecticides/ pesticides and growth stimulating agents.
The meeting started by a welcome address by me introducing the guest speaker and Mishraji obliged us by giving tips on the care of winter annuals, green leafy vegetables, fruit trees, feeding them with liquid manure and using baking soda, vinegar , lime and rice in different formulas to be given to the plants for getting maximum yield and preventing the attack of insects and pests.
He also talked about the importance of crop rotation and also on how to start preparing for summer vegetables starting in the month of January only.
A thank you note was given by convenor Rekha Malhotra which was followed by “ chai and Samose par charcha” when the house was open for informal question and answer session. The meeting ended with a very happy note.
