AIKGA Enthusiast Shares Her Inputs On Croton Plants!

Croton plants are a popular and beautiful addition to many homaddition gardens. Here are some interesting facts and tips about croton plants. Croton plants are a species of flowering plants in the spurge family. They are native to tropical regions of Asia and the Pacific Islands and are known for their striking variegated leaves which come in a wide range of colours and patterns including yellow, orange, red, green and black. They can grow up to 10 feet but are often pruned to maintain a smaller size. They have a woody stem and can be trained to grow as a shrub or a small tree.

Care And MMaintenance:

• Crotons prefer well draining soil and full sun to partial shade. Crotons prefer bright indirect light,  direct sunlight can cause the leaves to become scorched.

• Water them regularly but should not be over-watered as this can lead to root rot. Hence allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.

• Crotons should be pruned regularly to maintain their shape and encourage new growth.

• Croton plants should be fertilized to promote healthy growth and vibrant colours.

• Croton plants prefer a humid environment but they can adapt to average humidity levels.

• Keep the temperature between 65 to 75 degree fahrenheit ie 18 to 24° C.

Uses:

• Croton plants are often used as ornamental plants in gardens and indoor spaces, Hedge plants or border plants, container plants for balconies.

• They are air purifying plants as they are known to remove toxins from the air.

• Croton plants are toxic to humans and animals if ingested so keep them out of reach of children and pets.

• They can be propagated through stem cuttings, leaf cuttings or air layering.

Friends, today I am going to end the exchange of my information on crotons here. If required we can pick up the subject again. I have one full bed of crotons. I need healthy growth for them so I have gathered some ideas, thoughts and information from sources who are generous enough to help me out. In return I would like to share this with my family and friends of the All India kitchen garden association and fulfill our mission to make the surroundings green and fruitful.
