Age Just A Number For Wellington’s International Swimming Champion Sarita Tandan

Since 2018, Sarita Tandan, has been the pride of Wellington. At 60, when peo-ple retire, she started her second innings – as a swimmer – after a long break of 45 years. Inspired by her early success, she decided to continue her passion for swimming. Luckily, she participated in the fin swimming master’s championship in Egypt and won three medals for India in the 100,200 and 400 meters. This competition was held on 24th and 25th June 2023. Besides that, she has also won 30 gold, silver and bronze medals at national-level swimming competitions.

Her coach has worked hard to coach her for two hours daily. With his effort, she reached champion level.

She won one gold and three bronze medals at the 19th Master’s National Swimming Championship in Bhopal in November, where athletes from 25 states participated. She secured gold in 400 freestyle,100 metres stroke bronze,100 meters breaststroke bronze, and 200 relay bronze.

Sarita started swimming when she was 10. After marriage, she decided to take a break that lasted 45 years. But later her son, daughter, and husband inspired her to start again.

Now the national swimming champion and resident of 2B is preparing for her next challenge in December. She is confident about winning as she has been practicing diligently.

A simple lady, she gives her family the credit for her success. She always keeps her practice going in all seasons. She also expressed her gratitude to her coach. We wish for her success in all the competitions.
