Volunteers are extending a helping hand to solve the problem of dry leaves accumulating all over DLF Phase-2. The Aawaz Group started a pilot project to convert dry leaves and green waste into compost with the support of residents of Q Block. Initially, four bins were installed in Q Block Park in May 2024. Later, in June, three more bins were added. All seven bins are regularly filled with dry leaves, and watering is done on alternate days. In another two weeks, we expect to have compost for our park and residents.
This self-sustaining project helps address the issue of accumulated dry leaves in different parts of DLF Phase 2 and reduces costs for the DLF team by decreasing the number of tractor trolley trips and labor hours needed for picking up and dumping dry leaves outside DLF Phase-2.
The pilot project in Q Block received much appreciation from residents across DLF Phase-2, resulting in various sponsorships to combat the problem of dry leaves. This success has led to the project’s expansion into M Block, Madhya Marg, and Akash N Marg, DLF Phase-2.
The contributions for these six bins came from P. L. Koul, Harish Chopra, and Ravi Bhatia, Aawaz volunteers.
Encouraged by this support, Aawaz Volunteers’ Group foresees that, with continued resident support, we will be able to spread another 50 bins throughout DLF Phase-2 within the next six months. This will effectively keep the lanes free from dry leaves, making DLF Phase-2 a better place to live. Let’s pool our ideas and resources to improve DLF Phase-2.
