Aawaj Volunteer Group: Water Scarcity

GMDA sanctions one borewell to DLF as an emergency measure to Augment the water supply. Aawaj Volunteer group has been chasing GMDA and DLF for the last six months on water scar city and highlighted residents suffering from this. The affected residents have to pay a hefty amount to water tankers besides inconvenience and stress. Aawaj Volunteer Group with Vipin Yadav met GMDA chief Engineer and DLF’s Mr Nitya Mohan thrice and highlighted the water woes faced by residents, particularly in summer and it is deteriorating every year. During the meeting, GMDA admitted current water supply is short and they are working on laying a new line which is expected to be operational by the end of Dec 2026. It was proposed that DLF should reactivate two tube wells in DLF 2 as a short-term action plan.

Aawaj Group members approached Manish Yadav also and sought his support to push GMDA and DLF to take speedy action on this. Finally, after vigorous follow up GMDA has given NOC for one tubewell to DLF as an emergency measure to augment water supply. DLF should now take the necessary action of obtaining permission and execution of tubewell through its vendor as soon as possible. Further, DLF should fill their Tanks with water tankers whenever there is a shortage, residents should get water in their taps. This little success has come after vigorous follow-up. We are thankful to Vipin and Manish for their support.  Aawaj Volunteer Group also appeals to residents to Use water Judiciously. Every drop of water is precious. Aawaj Volunteer group will keep raising other issues concerning civic amenities with the right intent and with other agencies also.
