The Aao Milo group of Shanti Niketan is set up by the ladies of the colony and has over time got the residents of the colony together in a number of ways. Having such a hands-on group in the colony has a number of benefits that cannot be quantified.
The ladies of the group get together to celebrate festivals, to do gupshup over a cup of tea or coffee and in general bring about a much needed camaraderie and bonhomie in the community.
Besides the social aspect of the group that is similar to those present in many colonies, the USP of this group in Shanti Niketan is the way it comes together to help each other in the most basic and fundamental of ways. For example if a resident or a member of the group wants help in any form, like looking for a vendor, an electrician or a plumber, numbers are shared within a matter of minutes. Everyone goes out of the way to share their inputs so as to be able to help the fellow resident.
SNRA on its own part has helped the group by felicitating them, providing them space in Kalyan Kendra along with a fridge where goodies can be stored for the members. This much needed meeting space has helped in making the group stronger and much more focused.
We hope that in the coming years this group turns out to be one of the fundamental groups of Shanti Niketan and help foster bonding within its community.
