A Weekend Trip to a Hospital – K Anita

May 28 As the temperatures soared last week I decided to chill in the cool, antiseptic climes of a five-star hospital. While the virus in my gut ensured I did not retain any solids or liquids, the princely loo became my seat of excellence. The high-end coffee shop’s cold coffee was the most likely culprit. The download frequency increased with uncontrolled fervour and my knees soon turned into jelly. This is when my partner-in-crime Rahul drove me to the nearest luxury destination of the five star hospital.

The emergency doctor assessed me and soon saline, medicines etc. were given although delayed. There were four more similar cases. At 2 am I was sent home but I was still loo-struck, making umpteen visits to the sanctum, throughout the night. Next morning, I checked in again and managed to get a room, interestingly, in the maternity wing. The drip started and the doctor’s verdict was ‘viral diarrhoea’, I was more familiar with verbal diarrhoea, mostly affecting politicians during this election period! All routine tests along with ultrasound, ECHO, Xray were done to find the culprit and I was so energy deficient as if I had trekked Mt Annapurna again.

The  khichdi and upma served the next day were so unpalatable for my non-existing appetite. The ORS and the coconut water was my only savour. In between winks, and getting my veins pricked, an inane movie China Vs Chennai lulled me to sleep. I returned home on the third day, after I lost 2 kgs and the pocket was lighter by over 70K. The costliest coffee that I could ever dream of! So, folks, just be careful what you eat these days. Eat fresh and light, try and stay hydrated and indoors as much as possible, as my doctor advised.
