In a significant step towards strengthening community relations and addressing pressing issues, Amanatullah Khan (MLA) visited NFC on 8th December to engage with resi-dents and lend as ear to their concerns reflecting his commitment to being an elected representative to serve constituents. As the winter sun rose over the lawns of the office of NFC RWA (Ashoka Park) on Ashoka Park Road, a few residents gathered with anticipation. The turnout was a bit disappointing considering that day-after-day 24×7 residents have several complaints and issues with respect to infrastructure and facilities provided by the government within the colony, like overflowing sewer lines which require to be changed, mixing of water with the sewer lines because of which several families are reported to have to rely on water tankers for their daily needs leading to increased expenses, dismal condition of the roads which require immediate re-carpeting as they are riddled with potholes making transportation challenging especially during the monsoon season, poor lighting in the entire colony which poses a security threat, installation of CCTV cameras at strategic locations all over the colony. Residents also voiced concerns regarding safety, particularly issues related to street lighting and the need for increased police patrolling in response to rising incidents of petty crime. It was an open Forum where residents voiced their issues and concerns freely.
Khan said, “Today, I am here not just as your representative but as a friend,” ….. “Your concerns are my concerns, and together, we can pave the way for solutions.” The MLA listened attentively to each issue raised and after a discussion, he committed to addressing the concerns through various channels. Promises were made to initiate a proposal to allocate funds for road repair and maintenance, with priority given to the most affected areas, to collaborate with the water supply department to ensure that residents receive a reliable source of water, and to direct the department to survey and put before him an estimate for change of the 50-year old sewer lines. He promised to allocate the necessary electricity poles for the installation of additional streetlights and coordination with local law enforcement to increase patrolling were discussed to ensure the safety of residents. In the end, the residents thanked the MLA and said that they hope for him to keep up with the promises, assurances, and commitments made by him.
