A Little Green Paradise

A midst the hustle bustle of S block GK 2, lies this calm, green paradise of Mrs. Rajni Nath, which speaks volumes of her passion in curating this cute little garden on the ground floor. Rajni, a multitalented lady…a teacher by profession is also a Tanjore artist.

As we are welcomed into her “fairy garden”, as her neighbors call it, we are stunned by the greenery, and it is not exotic… but hardy and healthy plants that have magically transformed this space into a beautiful haven.

Her face lights up as she tells us the story of how it all happened. “This used to be an open and empty space which was frequented by dogs and cats to litter, till I put a gate and decided to convert it into a garden which is the ‘love of my life’ now,” she chirps.

Lush syngoniums, ferns and sansevierias are instant green soothers while magnificent jade, ficus, peepal bonsais leave us enthralled. Cascading money plant creepers and swaying palms further add to its beauty. Massive euphorbias with bright red flowers add much colour and cheer to this little garden. Unique animal pots with plants and animal figures further enhance the charm of this place. Strings of solar fairy lights are carefully hung on various plants which send me into a frenzy thinking how luminous it must be at night!

The beauty of the place resonates in her face, as she poses in the grass for a delightful picture. She has indeed brought a dead place alive with her perseverance and creativity. No, it doesn’t end here… we are treated to her home baked delicious chocolate cake and golgappas and hot cinnamon tea! I can’t help but admire the gorgeous aloe with orange thorns, on the table. Time has flown…we leave… mesmerized by the artistry of the garden and its creator.
