In summer, my house buzzed with laughter as a health summer camp took centre stage! I designed it to provide a foundation for a healthy lifestyle in a fun way. My focus was on integrating nutritious eating as well as cooking, physical activity, mindfulness, and emotional well-being practices into daily life.
Children learned the importance of eating colourful fruits and vegetables through creative activities like edible art, relay race, and taste tests. They had a session on learning the importance of gut health and gut bacteria and how we can achieve healthy balance in our gut.
Kids discovered how different colours of foods benefit their bodies and how to make healthy eating exciting. They learnt the practice of drinking water in the morning.
The summer camp included physical exercises and yoga sessions. Children learnt how to start their day in a healthy way by doing bed yoga. They learnt the value of staying active and how physical activity contributes to well-being.
Craft projects such as making their daily Healthy Habits Calendar helped kids express their creativity while learning about a healthy lifestyle. These activities reinforced the idea that habits can be fun.
The children practiced visualizations, breathing exercises, and simple yoga sessions to relax. They learned techniques to reduce stress, enhancing their resilience.
Gratitude journaling and affirmations sessions were integrated into the camp routine. Kids learned to appreciate the good things and the power of positive thinking to boost their self-esteem.
Children learnt to cook a lot of different healthy dishes. They also learnt the difference between healthy snacks, treats and indulgences. They had a hands-on cooking experience which they loved. They actually went home and cooked these dishes for their families!
It was a summer filled with exploration, joy and learning about holistic health – unforgettable summer fun!
