Meet JC Parashar, a resident of 11053, whose kindness is as magnificent as a peacock’s feathers. His love and compassion for birds have led him to feed peacocks, and other birds daily for the past 10 years — a commitment that has significantly increased their population from a handful to around 50-60.
Growing up in a house surrounded by nature, where animals and birds, including peacocks, would often visit, Mr Parashar developed a love for animals. His family home had fruit-laden guava trees, and the guavas were kept exclusively for the visiting animals.
In 2014, after moving to ATS One Hamlet, Mr Parashar heard peacocks calling from the nearby Ashram and felt an instinctive urge to feed them. Without hesitation, he began offering their favourite food – maize daily near Tower 11, and to ensure the peacocks’ well-being, he even cleared some land so the birds could comfortably feed.
Initially, Mr Parashar would make three daily trips to the Ashram to ensure they had sufficient food. However, to keep up with his health, he developed an innovative method that worked well for both the peacocks and him.
Mr Parashar has adopted a unique feeding routine, wherein every morning at 7:15 am, he tosses 1-1.5 kg packets of maize from his fifth-floor balcony with remarkable precision, ensuring the peacocks get their food.
Shortly after, Mr Parashar tosses another packet and uses the third packet, if needed, later in the day.
Despite rain, heat or ill health, Mr Parashar has never missed a single day of feeding them.
Mr Parashar’s care extends beyond the peacocks. At 6:15 am, he leaves small chapati pieces for squirrels and offers millet for birds.
Mr Parashar’s selfless routine starts at 5 am with yoga, preparing a herbal drink for his family, feeding birds, followed by a brief session of share market tracking — a hobby he still passionately pursues.
Mr Parashar’s heart finds immense joy in watching these birds and animals eat. For him, the greatest reward is the sight of peacocks running towards the food, which he considers his reward.
Mr Parashar has never sought financial support for his kind acts, and all he wants is for the birds to remain well-fed.
Such is his devotion that Mr Parashar has stopped traveling overnight, fearing the birds might go hungry in his absence. His love and discipline have transformed the peacock population, and his joy lies in seeing them thrive.
JC Parashar’s journey exemplifies will, compassion and dedication. His unwavering commitment to nurturing birds is truly inspiring, and a big salute goes out for his love and spirit.
