A God Sent Dog Leo – Part 5An End Too Soon

Leo was by large healthy and energetic guy. But his end came so suddenly. He fell sick on a Wednesday and by the following Monday, he was gone. Trips to the vet and hospital were of no avail and on the morning after Deepavali 2023 Leo breathed his last. Just three and half years old leaving us all shattered. We gave him a dignified funeral and immersed his ashes in the Ganges. After all, he was a family member. This was my requiem to him-

Leo beta, Generally beta we value people (you are more than a person to me) only in their permanent absence. In that deafening void one can only hear one’s sobs.

Not me beta. I valued you and virtually every day told Nandini that our meeting was divinely ordained when you, as a puppy, followed me home for over a km with confidence.

You chose me. Unconditionally. I am ever so grateful to you. You were sent to hold my hand beta.

With your heart and paws, you held me steady through Covid, the nightmarish time with my mother’s health and personal challenges that blindsided me. I had so much to learn about human relationships and your sagely ears heard my innermost feelings and you listened like no one else. That you were my third child was said by me millions of times to you.  Blackie  and whitey are my joint 4th children! ) The two are now spending time with us to help us in your absence.

You are my “philosopher “ with the message “Keep playing dad as long as you have the opportunity and energy and Chill!”  With your head in a cone and your front leg in full plaster, you wanted to play!!

I am comforted that you heard what you meant to me when you were physically with me. Today, We have only your earthly body whose ashes we merge into the Ganga today. No rebirth beta for you. You are home. But if you still come back, May God be with you.
