A God Sent Dog Leo – A Puppy That Followed Me Home

It was a hot and humid day in early July 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. I had gone to the market to buy some essentials and while I was walking back home some passerby alerted me that a puppy was following me. I turned around and this little white and brown pup looked up at me with his big brown eyes. I thought his mother would be around, so I continued to walk. I looked back after walking a short distance and saw he wasn’t there and figured he had found his family. Then suddenly from below a row of parked cars he emerged again now more determined to follow me!!!

I had to then  cross a main road to get home and I was sure he would not be able to do it and would change his path. But this determined young pup continued to follow me. I rang home to my family that a puppy was following me home. Of course, no one believed me. I reached home and he walked in right royally, as if he was meant to be there. But still both my wife and daughter came running to receive him. He was given some milk and bread which he lapped up in a few minutes and then turned on his back and went to sleep without a care in the world.

We thought that he would leave the gate the same way he entered but that never happened. Leo, as he was called from then on, had come to stay.

He was scruffy and thin from lack of nutrition. My son and his wife hearing the news arrived with a lot of dog care stuff. He was cleaned, groomed and a collar was put. Leo Seshadri was ours. It was divine intervention that Leo found us and we found him. Everyone who met him throughout his life loved him and his absolute joy in everything.

As a family, we loved animals but had never had a dog. We had several cats, two of whom were already ours before Leo came to us. God gave us to him. The joy and unconditional love that he gave us is something words cannot describe. How he filled our days with his pranks and mischief will follow soon.
