A Final Gift at 90

Suraj Narain Mangla ji pledged to donate his body for medical research

At 90 years old, Suraj Narain Mangla ji made an extraordinary decision to pledge his body to science after his death, marking the culmination of a lifetime dedicated to both personal growth and a sense of service to humanity. His commitment was not just an act of generosity; it was a profound belief in the importance of advancing medical knowledge for future generations.

Mangla ji was a professor of English Literature and lived in Kaithal. His elder son Rajesh Narain and daughter-in-law Usha are residents of L24/13 DLF Phase 2. Mangla ji would often come and stay with them but he was most at peace in Kaithal, where he knew everyone. Throughout his long life, Mangla ji did charity and believed that his final contribution could aid in research, he opened doors for scientific discovery in fields like anatomy, disease research, and surgical training, helping doctors and medical students develop their skills through hands-on learning.

This decision, though often rare, is a selfless act that allows individuals to leave a lasting legacy long after their time on earth. This was his way of continuing to give back to a world that had already given him so much.

Mangla ji breathed his last on 2nd December 2024 and his body was handed over to the Department of Anatomy, PGIMER Chandigarh on the 3rd of December 2024 by the family.
