We keep our money and valuables in a bank – for the simple reason that we think that banks are safe places. But it leaves the residents shocked to find that banks are as vulnerable and susceptible as any other individual property. This incident happened in sector 31.
The robbers were smart enough to damage the CCTV cameras of the bank, naturally to avoid any evidence of the crime. They have still been captured in a distant camera. (Our readers may see the video in our Broadcast version). Whether they can be identified and caught, is not known to us as yet. Fortunately, the robbers could not enter inside the bank but they could take away the AC units.
A strict vigilance and efficient security system needs to be in place. And tougher actions against the culprits can be taken. But what we, as society need to ponder is the root cause. There are several factors that influence young people into committing criminal acts or behaviour. There is no single root cause of crime. Crime is primarily the outcome of multiple adverse social, cultural, economic and family conditions. To prevent crime it is necessary to understand the root cause. And unless we as society think and do something about it; no amount of police patrolling, CCTV cameras, vigilance or punishments can prevent the crime.
