A disciplined lifestyle emanating from a Defence background, proficiency in the dominion of finance, passion for reading, zeal for linguistics – these are just a few of the
traits that define the personaof Madhusudan Tripathi who has led a highly fulfilling life and enjoys every moment of it now that he has settled most of his familial responsibilities. An ex-Banker and a resident of S Block GK-2 since 1986, Madhu grew up in military cantonments as his father served in the Infantry Arm of the Indian Army.
After completing his schooling from the prestigious Modern School, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi, Madhu graduated in Economics (Hons)from Hansraj College and went on to do his MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University. His passion for finance made him take up a career in banking immediately thereafter when he joined the renowned State Bank of India in 1978 where he served for the next 14 years in various capacities. He reached his pinnacle in SBI when he headed the Credit Cell of the bank for the GM (Ops), who had over 800 branches under his control. He also enriched his academic credentials with degrees/diplomas in CFA & CAIIB during this period.
His rich experience at SBI enabled him to take up several significant assignments at renowned multinational banks like BNP and ANZ Grindlays in the later years where he further augmented his experience in several diverse areas of banking like Branch Management and Retail Lending.
Having traveled extensively within the country during these stints, Madhu recalls the unique nuances and challenges of banking in different geographical territories that he experienced and worked upon. Maintaining the continuum of stability in his job, Madhu made the final switch in his career by joining IndusInd Bank in 1999 where his initial task was to turn around a difficult branch of the bank in Ahmedabad which he successfully achieved. It was during this period that the devastating earthquake struck Gujarat and Madhu reminiscences visiting some of the severely affected areas to render financial assistance to the people by his bank.
He rose to head the Internal Audit cell of IndusInd Bank besides working in the Internal Vigilance and Compliance cell of the bank too. A key highlight of his tenure at the bank was the development and implementation of a Bank-wide Compliance Program for driving home the significance of compliance in banking operations to front-line staff.
Although he hung up his boots on his banking career spanning almost four decades in 2016, Madhu completed a Certification course on Fraud Examination conducted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Houston, Texas, post his retirement out of his sheer interest in the subject.
He now finds ample time to pursue his other interests. A voracious reader, Madhusudan cannot sit without a book in his hands. Not just this, he is simultaneously learning five foreign languages on-line owing to his interest in Linguistics. He can speak in over 30 Indian & foreign languages and loves to pick up the unique dialect of any new place that he visits. Madhu`s other interests include music and sports. He was in his school orchestra group as a violin player and was also the Captain of his school and Zonal Badminton teams, besides having learnt Judo, Swimming and Horse Riding. His other hobbies include Adventure Sports, Hiking and Long drive (the longest being the Trans-Canada).
Madhusudan Tripathi`s wife Meenakshi has been his great pillar of strength throughout his professional and personal standing. A banker herself, Meenakshi chose to break her career midway to share her load of family responsibilities. They are blessed with two children who are both well settled in Canada. Their daughter is a Hotelier while their son is an IT Professional. We hope Madhusudan Tripathi achieves many more milestones in his life.
