For the first time, Gopashtami was celebrated in the sector, with the RWCS organising a Prabhat Pheri along with Shreeji Gaushala on Oct 29, 2022. A large number of residents attended the Prabhat Pheri at 5.30 AM and participated in the cow worship performed by Shri Govind Sharma, President, RW&CS and NK Agarwal, President Shreeji Gaushala.
Two cows from Shreeji Gaushala were brought an evening prior and kept in the shed near Gangotri Hall. The Prabhat Pheri was started from the RWCS office and went around the blocks with select residents doing aarti for the cows and offering food to them.
Gopashtami is a festival that is dedicated to Lord Krishna and cows and is famous in the Braj regions, especially Mathura and Vrindavan. It is said that on this day, Shri Krishna was given the responsibility of taking care of the cows by his father, Nanda Maharaj, who had organised a small ceremony before sending Krishna-Balram to graze the cows towards Vrindavan. The duo was joined by Radha, who disguised herself as a boy to join her friends.
