It was a moment of pride and celebration for all of us in Sector-93 residents volunteer for Books For All (BFA), when Radhika and Priyanka sponsored by BFA passed Class 12 CBSE in 1st Division securing 87% and 81% respectively in Commerce stream. Having earned this feat, they have now achieved yet another milestone by securing a place for themselves in the prestigious Delhi University by clearing highly competitive CUET exam.
Their achievement may seem ordinary compared to students who have scored 99% marks but for us they are heroes. These girls, first generation learners in their family, had no parental guidance. On the contrary they studied despite many family pressures, including the threat of marriage, which hung like a Damocles sword on their heads. They even managed to study online on a shared Mobile in a cramped 10×10 room shared with parents and siblings. Radhika and Priyanka have not only made their family proud but are a beacon of light to all those girls who are struggling in similar circumstances.
BFA has been sponsoring the education of students in English Medium schools. We not only paid their fees but also mentored and coached these students.
