19th Inter-Dojo Karate Competition at Palms

The 19th Inter-Dojo Karate Competition organized by Alan-Thilak International Karate school was held at The Palms on Sunday 6 November, where 35 children from different residential areas including Palms, South City, Maruti Vihar, Mayfield Garden, Malibu Town, Gurgaon One and DLF Phase 1 participated enthusiastically. 

Mrs. Ruby Phogat Yadav, Vice President Mahila Morcha BJP, Mr. Alok Sheel, IAS retd., former Secretary, PM’s Economic Advisory Council and Mr. Ashok Sangwan, IAS, Retd. Divisional Commissioner Gurugram, graced the event as special guests and gave away medals to children winning in different sets of competitions.

The clear skies of Sunday morning with weather Gods and wind helping clear away the dust and pollution, all karate kids got ready to gather in the lawns of Palms at 8.30 am. The energy was infectious which was visible among many of the resident audience who stuck around cheering for the children till afternoon. 

Children displayed their skills in ‘Kata’, a standardized and ritualized sequence of offensive and defensive techniques simulating virtual fighting; and ‘Kumite’, a score-based, time-limited fighting with punches and kicks between two opponents. They were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals as per their performance in the events. The students also graduated to the next level of belts as per their test results and eligibility.

Sensei Biju D., Karate coach who has been training children of Palms for the past 6 years shares, “We are happy to be able to hold a tournament after two years of pandemic and it was a great boost for our students. Children and parents equally enjoyed being part of the event and we are thankful to the organisers at Palms.”

Moutusi Ghosh, mother of Ishaan Ghosh (7 years) says, “The karate tournament in Palms was indeed a memorable one for us. It was the first ‘exam’ for our kid. We had seen the excitement and energy in him like never before. We experienced his first emotion on a win and a loss. We experienced his joy to receive an award at the same time his urge to understand what is an exam, was something we will never forget. Thanks to Biju Sir all the others involved for these wonderful memories which we have engraved permanently in our heart”.
