Cleaning/sanitation is one of the main issues that are always highlighted by residents in various colony groups. The main concern is why our streets/lanes are not cleaned daily. Why doesn’t the MCD staff work in auto mode? Why to get a street cleaned we need to make so many requests “ Agreed, all these issues are genuine. When we pay our property taxes to the MCD in advance every year, why are we not provided basic services like cleaning our front lanes and backlanes? Why do requests have to be made to the councillor to get it done? The main reason for this problem of cleaning, as stated by MCD, is a shortage of staff. 50 percent of the required staff is not there in the colony either; some have retired, leaving their beats empty, or others are enjoying a paid leave. The other cause is that no recruitment has taken place in MCD for the past 15 years, leading to a lot of vacancies, which ultimately results in no staff for a designated lane. Staff is shifted from one lane to another on a priority basis, leaving the issue of lanes being cleaned in auto mode on a daily basis unresolved. Hopefully, with a bill being passed in the assembly regarding the recruitment of staff in the MCD and implementation of more strict norms for attendance, things should start functioning in auto mode and make our colony clean.
