Segregate waste to save your planet
We all know our planet is in trouble because of pollution of land, water and air. Sending our organic waste to landfills contributes hugely to the harmful greenhouse gases causing global warming.
Why? We can all consciously and ethically try to reduce the huge load generated everyday to give little respite to our cities.
How? We just need to segregate our kitchen waste and compost them which will save everyday additional load on our landfills.
Greater Kailash 2 Welfare Association has taken initiative to act upon this great idea on a community level creating awareness among its residents to save the environment.
GKIIWA Vice President Uma Talwar has coordinated with MCD, its brand Ambassador Ameena Talwar and NGO IPCA for advanced recycling and composting of kitchen waste at E – block Sehgal market 1 Park at a clean and secure corner.
Initially 6 Aerobins have been installed to collect wet waste from 200 households. About 100 kg of wet waste per day goes into these smart bins with advanced technology.
Process : The wet waste collected is first sorted at the station mixed with cocopeat and loaded in the bins. The composter creates a perfect atmosphere for breakdown of organic waste, it kills pathogens, inoculates weeds and seeds and creates good quality compost in a short time.
A variety of Wet waste, vegetables and fruit peels, egg shells, flowers, hair and human nails, tea bags and dry leaves all contribute to wet waste. The compost and liquid fertilizer comes back to residents with its yield of manure for the parks, home and terrace gardens.
GKIIWA urges its residents to adopt the wonderful concept of composting and save our earth from carbon footprint.
