After persistent efforts by the United RWA Forum, traffic signals at AIT Chowk are now fully operational, bringing much-needed relief to commuters in the area. The forum, representing 13 RWAs from nearby localities, had been advocating for traffic signals, a U-turn, and a service lane at the Chowk since 2022.
While the installation of traffic signals marks a significant achievement, the demand for a U-turn remains unresolved. Despite an order from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) in mid-2023, the implementation was stalled due to pending handover issues between real estate giant DLF and GMDA. As DLF has yet to transfer Golf Course Road to GMDA, the final decision on the U-turn still rests with the company.
“We have been consistently following up with the authorities, and we remain hopeful that a solution for the U-turn will be implemented soon,” said the convener of the United RWA Forum.
Residents have also suggested modifying or removing the existing roundabout to ease congestion. The relaxation of a previously barricaded round turn at AIT Chowk has further improved traffic movement in the area.
The success of getting the traffic signals installed was the result of continuous engagement with the authorities, including representations made to the DCP Traffic and GMDA. The forum expressed gratitude to all RWAs, volunteers, and concerned citizens who contributed to resolving the issue.
“We thank all the 13 RWAs who supported this cause and worked together to ensure traffic lights were installed. There have been many volunteers from Gurgaon (nearby areas) who have been approaching the authorities individually. Special thanks to Ajit Bhai, the RWA presidents, and the residents who placed their trust in us,” the forum’s convener added.
As the follow-ups continue, residents remain optimistic that their long-standing demand for a U-turn will soon be met, further enhancing traffic flow and safety at AIT Chowk.
