Residents of various localities in Gurgaon have been raising their voices against illegal mobile towers in their localities. While some have been successful in dismantling the towers by protesting or writing to authorities, others refuse to give up hope.
DLF 4 residents have brought up one such issue. There has been an ongoing issue with cell phone towers installed in the residential area, which has not been resolved despite their repeated communications. Instead, the number of towers and equipment has increased significantly, causing heightened concern among the residents about the potential health and environmental effects.
Repeated concerns have been seen throughout the Gurgaon but no major respite has been given to the residents. There have been unauthorized Installations and expansions in DLF 4. Indus Tower Limited (formerly Bharti Infratel Limited) has installed several towers with multiple dish antennas on the roofs of the houses. These installations are at a very low height and pose significant health hazards to the residents in close proximity. The installations have been carried out without proper legal approval from the District Town Planner, and despite this, the towers have been continuously enhanced and expanded over the years.
In a few cases, the case was closed with false information provided by vested parties, without proper verification from the RWA authorities or the residents. No individual resident should have the authority to approve on behalf of the entire colony.
The continuous addition of dishes and infrastructure is a matter of serious concern for the health and safety of the residents. There should be an immediate investigation into who permitted these installations and the continuation of these activities without valid agreements.
It has been observed that similar installations have been removed or sealed by the enforcement wing of the Department of Town and Country Planning and therefore the removal of such towers must not be lingered on.
