Restaurants Dumping Waste

Let’s Instill a Sense of Pride in Residents

As one enters the colony, we are greeted with a number of signs saying “I Love GK2”. Even the market has the board, trying to instill a sense of pride among residents about their colony. Unfortunately, some residents were overheard saying that maybe the colony should be rechristened to “Gutter Kailash – 2”!

One can not help but feel their frustration when time and again overflowing sewage water flows on the roads. Walking on these roads feels like walking in “gutter ka paani”. Clogged drains ensure that this is not just an issue during monsoon, but throughout the year.

Many residents have repeatedly complained that every time they step out of their house, they are forced to cross this dirty stinking water flowing in the lane. This problem is especially acute at those locations where there are manholes.

The back lanes of the market are another pain point, as the commercial establishments / restaurants dump their waste water simply onto the roads, and the water flows to the main road. Anyone who walks around the entrance of these back lanes is greeted with this filthy water along with unbearable stench. In fact, during monsoons there was even an incidence of electrocution due to this stagnant water, but the monsoons have gone, the water has not.

Certainly the problem is aggravated by cars and driveways being washed every day, with the water flowing and then getting stagnated in various potholes, and for this the residents themselves are squarely responsible. But repeat offenders can and should be penalized by the concerned authorities.

However, it seems that the colony which pays one of the highest taxes in the city has very little voting strength. Hence, authorities blatantly ignore all complaints, leaving the residents with no choice but to refer to this once-beautiful colony as “gutter kailash”.
