Morning and evening walkers look for a place of tranquillity, where time seems to slow down. In this haven of peace, worries seem to melt away, replaced by a sense of calm and serenity. It is a place to reconnect with yourself; to find solace in the quiet beauty of the natural world; to simply breathe deeply; to be grateful for the abundance of life all around; to socialize; to plan parties; and to discuss government policies!
Yes, you guessed it right. For Hamletians, this tranquil place is none other than our own Janpath. This road adds a charm to living at AOH, offering a blend of beauty and tranquillity amidst the concrete jungle of the city.
However, there have been times when we have had cases of lawlessness on Janpath. We have had incidents of drunken driving and even of, what is popularly called, car-o-bar. This has been evident by the litter of empty alcohol bottles by the side of the street.
There have also been instances of rash driving and racing. Drivers take advantage of Janpath being a cul-de-sac and race their cars on it thereby putting pedestrians, other drivers and even animals at risk. We have written multiple times in the past about our community dogs being hit by speeding cars.
We have also had cases of eve teasing. Miscreants have engaged in disrespectful behaviour towards residents which, at times, creates an uncomfortable atmosphere. How can we forget the chain and mobile snatching incidents?
The society administration continues to work extensively with law enforcement agencies to make Janpath a safer road. While the administration and police do their bit, residents must keep their eyes and ears open too and report anything suspicious while keeping their guard up while outside, especially if alone.
For us, Janpath will always be OUR street – where we will walk without any fear – be it day or night. We will NEVER let the glory of Janpath diminish!
