Chanda Arora’s Garden is the Longest in the Colony

To continue our most famous series to highlight one of the gardens (kitchen/balcony/ground floor/terrace) this month we are feeling privileged to visit the beautiful garden of Chanda Arora, who is a resident of A-5 Def col (on the RLS Marg). The following are the interesting details about Arora’s garden:

Chanda Arora, who will turn 74 soon, was born and brought up in the heart of New Delhi (Bengali market). She got married to Mr. Arora, a resident of Defence Colony, and has been staying with her son and grandchildren in the colony for more than five decades. As she has a childhood hobby of gardening, she started collecting plants during her travel times for her garden (which is the longest garden in the colony) in a phased manner. During these years, she planted various “sadabahar” trees in front of her house, followed by a variety of delicious fruits like mango, guava, banana etc. in her garden.

The Garden of Aroras is known for rare species of flowers, ornamental plants, and beds of roses. The air purifier plants are kept in each room to reduce pollution. Chanda Arora has been growing 15-20 types of vegetables (bhindi, tori, ghia, lemon, mooli, palak, ginger, tomato, pudina, dhania, etc.) as per the season. These organic vegetables are enjoyed not only by her whole family but also by her relatives, friends, and neighbors like us. As Chanda is quite popular for her kitty parties, the winter parties are always there in her garden with music played, and guests are seen to be enjoying the lush green grass.
