Celebrating Dussehra At ATS One Hamlet

The festival of Dussehra symbolises the victory of good over evil. According to the Hindu epic Ramayana, it marks Lord Rama’s triumph over the demon king Ravana.

Burning Ravana’s effigy represents not just the defeat of evil but also encourages people to overcome their negative qualities. Over time, the event has come to reflect changing values and attitudes in society beyond just religious meaning.

Ravana, the powerful yet flawed ten-headed king of Lanka, is known for his strength and intelligence but also his faults, such as his capture of Sita, which leads to his downfall. His ten heads, representing qualities like anger and greed, are burnt in large effigies to symbolise the removal of these negative traits from society.

This tradition encourages people to reflect on their faults and commit to positive values.

Ravana Dahan is celebrated with lively customs and a festive atmosphere, especially in North India, where it draws large crowds.

The residents at AOH, rejoiced and celebrated Dussehra this year with great fervour under the aegis of the AOH Cultural Committee. The event united people of all ages, fostering community and shared cultural heritage.

The kids from AOH families especially enjoyed the fireworks that accompanied the burning of Ravana near Gate 2, while adults engaged in spiritual reflection. For many, the event is not just a celebration but an opportunity to impart life lessons to the younger generations.

Let’s pledge to conquer the Ravana within us by being more compassionate and spreading positivity. Let’s be mindful of the environment and make this celebration a mark of positive change for the future.
