Meghdutam Park in Neglect

Street dogs have taken over the park premises

The Meghdutam Park of F-block, which has been the pride of Sector 50 for a long time; but has become a scene of neglect and destitution for many months, and a source of frustration for the morning walkers. Street dogs have completely taken over the park premises and have captured benches, pathways, and park areas, and are increasingly becoming a threat to people, especially to old and children.

Residents of all F-block societies and many neighboring sectors/societies come in this park to enjoy greenery and fresh air, do morning walks, yoga, exercises, meditation, playing and other activities, but these dogs keep barking and thereby create an unpleasant and menacing environment for everyone. With only limited guards around, it becomes a threatening situation in the morning. Many incidents have been reported elsewhere, where such unattended canines have attacked elderly people and children. An early action is required from the park authorities to restrict the entry of street dogs to avoid any untoward incident.

Moreover, the washrooms in the park, located at regular intervals, are no longer maintained, giving intense foul smell and are full of garbage. In the season of festivals and worship, everyone cleaning and tidied up of their homes and surroundings. But this public convenience continues to be in a state of neglect.

It is also to be noted that 02 October was chosen for country-wide initiative of Clean India Mission/ Swachta Abhiyan and all government and private authorities had come forward with special cleanliness drives on Gandhi Jayanti, but Meghdutam Park was left unattended and untidy.

The park is at the heart of the city which has been awarded as “Smart City” many time in the past. The authorities must give some attention to the menace of street dogs and cleanliness in this otherwise beautiful haven.
